The sparkling lights of the stars arouses yearning and wishes in the human race. And when a shooting star burns out in the night sky, it is said that some wishes may come true. People suffering from neglected diseases such as leprosy or Buruli ulcer on the other hand have but one wish: health.
FAIRMED – formerly Leprosy Relief Emmaus Switzerland – has been campaigning for the elimination of neglected diseases in many countries for 50 years. Our goal is a world in which no one has to die from a curable disease simply because of inability to afford the treatment. “Twinkling stars” is the name of the campaign with which FAIRMED draws attention to its concerns.
As a part of the Basel National Day celebrations alongside the Rhine on 31 July, the night sky will be transformed into a silently sparkling sea of stars in front of tens of thousands of astonished spectators. Buy a star for CHF 10.00 and play your part in helping to give disadvantaged people the hope of escaping a vicious circle of poverty and disease!
