“Sharing in a vision that saves lives”

Cathérine A. Akom is the new FAIRMED Country Manager for Cameroon. With over ten years of experience at a strategic level in environmental and development programs, she brings a great deal of expertise to her role. Her goals are correspondingly ambitious.

"FAIRMED gives me the opportunity to use my skills perfectly."

“FAIRMED's vision that no person should suffer or die from a curable disease really touches my heart. Having also lost friends and family members to curable diseases, I consider it a privilege to be able to participate in this global vision,” says Akom of her motivation in working for FAIRMED.

“Above all, FAIRMED offers me the opportunity to put the skills and knowledge that I have acquired over the years to good use. I want to tackle the problems in the health sector that hinder the health of the poorest and most vulnerable,” says Akom. “In particular those that affect the indigenous population,” she adds.

Ambitious goals
Asked about her further goals, the country manager replies: “I would be thrilled if FAIRMED in Cameroon were to become a leading NGO that is involved in all discussions as well as all political decisions and actions on the topic of neglected tropical diseases and poverty.”

According to Akom, this would extend to the government, the local community, civil society, as well as local corporate, technical and financial partners.
