FAIRMED operates in the health districts of Mbaïki and Boda in the Lobaye Prefecture and in Sangha-Mbaéré in the southwest of the country. We are primarily active in remote regions where few international organizations are active.

FAIRMED identifies and removes obstacles that women face in accessing health services, information, and participation opportunities. We promote the self-determination and leadership role of women within communities and within our organization.

In crisis situations - such as cholera, measles, or mpox outbreaks - FAIRMED supports those affected with rapid, targeted measures.

We combine long-term development cooperation with humanitarian aid. Together with the communities, we strengthen their ability to prepare for crises, recognize risks early, and act quickly in emergencies. We achieve this in part thanks to our local employees. They live close to the affected areas and can respond to new challenges within a few hours. They do not need to travel from far away but are already on site. They are also well connected with local authorities and know how to organize food, clothing, and medicine.

This results in resilient healthcare systems that provide people with security and hope not only in everyday life but also in the most challenging moments.

In the Central African Republic, various neglected tropical diseases are prevalent, including leprosy, yaws, Buruli ulcer, African sleeping sickness, elephantiasis, river blindness, bilharzia, onchocerciasis, schistosomiasis, and trachoma. FAIRMED focuses particularly on skin NTDs and improves access to diagnosis and treatment in remote regions.

As corruption can occur at the local government level, FAIRMED operates its own country offices in all project countries and directly controls the flow of funds there. Funds never go to governments but exclusively to carefully selected local employees. Collaboration with partners is clearly defined in project planning – including responsibilities and funding sources.

Strict monitoring and external audits ensure that irregularities and deviations in our project activities and their financing are noticed. In addition, FAIRMED implements anti-corruption programs in the Central African Republic and in all project countries, conducts risk analyses, and ensures transparency with reporting systems.

FAIRMED has been working closely with the government in the Central African Republic for many years to sustainably strengthen the health system. Among other things, we analyze challenges in service delivery together with the authorities and jointly develop effective, needs-based, and locally adapted solutions. In this way, FAIRMED helps ensure that healthcare services are better coordinated and that even remote populations have access to high-quality care.
