The goal of the project is to provide more than 670,000 people along the Mbam River in the heart of Cameroon with access to early diagnosis, local treatment, and high-quality follow-up care. We ensure that healthcare workers and community health workers receive targeted training, that healthcare facilities receive the necessary support—such as through the provision of essential medications and medical supplies—and that disease surveillance is improved. This enables those affected to be identified, treated, and cared for at an early stage. A particular focus is placed on the health of women and other disadvantaged population groups.

As a technical advisor and co-funding partner, FAIRMED works together with the government, health authorities, local partners, and the Spanish foundation Anesvad to strengthen local healthcare services. The project builds on the experience gained during a successful pilot phase in Bafia and will be expanded to eight health districts in the Mbam Valley from 2025 to 2029. Through close collaboration with communities and authorities, the project helps prevent complications, reduce stigma, and make healthcare more accessible, inclusive, and sustainable in the long term.
