Why we are needed
FAIRMED's project covers communities that are particularly remote and at high risk of natural disasters such as landslides. Here, where there is a lack of basic medical infrastructure, many people suffer from NTDs such as dengue, elephantiasis, leprosy or rabies and the health of mothers and children is at risk. In addition, many parts of the population lack knowledge about how to recognize the first signs of disease and when to seek medical help.

How we work
Through this project, 200,000 people in the rural population - especially pregnant women, mothers, young children, people with disabilities and people suffering from neglected tropical diseases (NTDs) - will benefit from an improved healthcare system. We ensure that all health facilities are equipped to meet the needs and strengthen the medical expertise of the staff. We also provide the population with basic health knowledge, e.g. how to recognize the first signs of NTDs themselves at an early stage. We deploy volunteer health workers who serve as a point of contact for medical questions from the villagers and lead and support the mothers' and self-help groups.
